What Kind of Battles Are You Fighting?

Life is full of battles. One of my mentors said “there are no battle-free zones in this world”. But I say to you to choose your battles carefully. Some battles are mere distractions to derail you from your path of destiny.

For instance, David the bible hero, on his way to challenging Goliath (that dreaded giant of the Philistine army), was confronted by his own brother who spat some bitter words at him. But David chose to not pay much attention to the onslaught of his brother. He knew this was not the real battle--it was a battle without a prize. When he went past his brother, he asked the other soldiers, what will be done for the man that will kill the giant? (see 1st Samuel 17:19-31) As we can see, David chose his battles carefully, and this battle of interest had a heavy prize attached for the winner. The prize was the king’s daughter as bride (which also meant access to the king’s treasury and authority). David was a wise young man. He was interested in battles that was worth his energy/sweat; battles that had a great prize to win. Not only that, he was interested in battles that were connected to his destiny. Because, prior to this time, he had already been secretly anointed the next king of Israel by the prophet Samuel. So the encounter with Goliath was a battle that was going to decide his destiny, and it did.

The women sang David’s praise, literally hailing him as the new king of Israel after he brought down the head of Goliath. And this is while King Saul was still on the throne (see 1st Samuel 17:50-51 & 1st Samuel 18:7-8). Thus, David seized the moment to enforce his prophetic destiny as he engaged in the right battle.

Therefore, let us learn from this biblical account as we go along in the journey of life to know which battles to face headlong and which ones to simply avoid. For instance, responding to an insult, responding to your critics, winning an argument with your spouse or  keeping malice at home or at the workplace, are all battles that do not decide your destiny, so they do not deserve your attention. They are battles that have no prizes to win at the end. At best, they leave you worse off than before. For instance, after winning that argument with your spouse, you end up with a tensed up relationship. After giving that co-worker the piece of your mind, you end up with a bad reputation at the work place. After answering your critics, it does not change them anyway. These battles represent distractions to take you off God’s course/plan for your life.

So, like David, be wise! Save your energy for the big battles: the destiny battles. Thus, the question remains: “What kind of battles are you fighting?”

Meanwhile, if you do not have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, I invite you to do so now. An active relationship with Jesus will enable you have the needed wisdom to navigate safely in a battle-filled world and win your destiny battles cheaply. Bible says:

…Christ the power of God and the Wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24)

So Jesus is our access to God’s Wisdom. Therefore, If you want Jesus in your life, Please say this simple prayer:

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and He shed His precious blood for my sins. Today, I confess Him as Lord and Saviour.  Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me. Amen!

Congratulations! if you said that prayer. The Word of God says you are now a new creature and old things are passed away. All things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). In other-words, God will never call your past life (sins/faults) to remembrance. They are totally forgiven and forgotten. Check this:

I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. (Isaiah 43:25)

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more (Hebrews 8:12)

Our Greatest Asset In Life

 Exodus 33:14-15

(14)  And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

(15)  And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

Divine presence is our greatest asset in the journey of life. In our text, Moses was literally saying to God, I cannot do without you Lord. I need your presence more than anything else.

Bible says,

And THE LORD WAS WITH JOSEPH, and he was a prosperous man…

And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand - Genesis 39:2-3

When God is with you, He will cause everything you do to prosper.  Joseph prospered because God was with him. He succeeded in his endeavors because God was with Him. Everything positive that happened in his life was because of one thing: God was with him. So God with you is your greatest asset in life.

But Why? Because:

  • When God goes with you, everything must go well for you.
  • When God goes with you, doors must open for you.  Scripture says:

Lift up your heads Oh Ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in - Psalm 24:7

In other words, when God (who is the King of glory) is coming/going with you, every gate must lift up their heads for you (they must fling open of their own accord).

  • When God goes with you, you’re dangerously defended.

For …if God be for us [or be with us], who can be against us? (Romans 8:31, paraphrased)

  • When you have God, you have gold (wealth). For God said,

“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine. saith the LORD of hosts.” - Haggai 2:8

When you have God, you have access to all things that this world can offer. In Psalm 24:1, it says:  The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

This means you can never be stranded in life with God by your-side. God with you is worth much more than anything in this world. Because God can give you everything you need and much more.

So if God’s presence offers so much, how do I get it? Just one key will do.  It is joyfulness. Psalm 16:11 says:

…in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.

In other words, God’s presence is where there is fullness of joy. Fullness of joy is fullness of His presence. So Joyfulness is God-fullness.  You can’t be truly joyful and lack His presence. Because joy is God’s natural habitat (see Psalm 22:3). And joyfulness is evidenced in our “praisefulness”. Praise is a natural consequence of joy. And praise moves God always (Exodus 15:11). So do well to always maintain an atmosphere of joy and rejoicing around you and you will never lack God’s ever-abiding presence. Desire from this day, to seek His ever abiding presence in all that you do and everywhere you go. You will be glad you did.

Meanwhile, our access to God begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ, the son of God. Jesus said:

I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6)

So Jesus is the only way to God the Father. Therefore, If you want Jesus in your life, Please say this simple prayer:

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and He shed His precious blood for my sins. Today, I confess Him as Lord and Saviour.  Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me!

Amen.

Congratulations! if you said that prayer. The Word of God says you are now a new creature and old things are passed away. All things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). In other-words, God will never call your past life (sins/faults) to remembrance. They are totally forgiven and forgotten. Check this:

KNOWING GOD

Exodus 33:13

Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight:

Knowing God should be our greatest and ultimate quest in life.  Not having the things or blessings of God or seeking the miracles of God. After all the outstanding miracles that Moses had seen God do (Deuteronomy 4:10-12/Exodus 10:2) , the panting of his heart was “…that I may know thee…”.

This is the secret of the great. They are men and women that have an insatiable hunger for God. They cannot have enough of God. They are not just satisfied with the miracles or testimonies that God gives them; they want to know His person. They want want a deeper experience with God. For when we know Him, every other thing falls into place.

This was the heart cry of Apostle Paul, the great sage of the new testament. “That I may know him”, said Paul “and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings” (Philippians 3:10). Paul was indeed a living wonder.  He did not just experience miracles regularly, he was a practical miracle (a man that defied death many times, see Acts 20:9-10/2Corinthians 11:23&25/Phillipians 1:22-25). Yet His deepest heart desire was “…that I may know Him..”. What else about Christ and God was there to know after all that Paul knew. Remember he was a man of abundance of revelation (2Corinthians 12:7). No! he was not satisfied. He wanted more because he knew there was more.  For His ways are past finding out (Romans 11:33).

Of a truth, as a preacher and one that has seen God do strange miracles, my greatest moments of joy and satisfaction is not when I see a miracle but when I am learning at the Master’s feet. My greatest moments of joy is when I am having my personal time with God in His word. The joy I experience at this time is beyond what words can describe. Knowing God is the secret of making lasting impact in life.

David, a man that made unusual impact on his generation, said  in Psalm 119:97-100:

(97)  O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

(98)  Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.

(99)  I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

(100)  I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts

Thousands of years after his demise, David’s star is still celebrated by the Jews today. That is trans-generational impact. And it was deeply rooted in his acquaintance with God.

Knowing God involves knowing His ways.  Bible says God made His ways known unto Moses and His acts unto the children of Israel (Psalm 103:7). So while the children of Israel only saw the acts of God, Moses had an understanding of the ways of God so he was in command of the acts or miracles.

Therefore, I say to you friend, seek to know God through his Word on a daily basis, and every other thing will take care of itself. Blessings, miracles, signs and wonders are all a natural consequence of knowing God.  Therefore, don’t just seek for blessings; seek to know the ‘Blessor’. Don’t just seek for healing, seek to know the Healer. Don’t just seek miracles, seek to know the miracle-worker and you will have all these things in abundance.

However,  knowing God begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ, the son of God.

Amen.

I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. (Isaiah 43:25)

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more (Hebrews 8:12)

YOU SHALL LIVE AND NOT DIE

Psalm 119:48-50

(48)  My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.

(49) Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.

(50)  This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.

There’s quickening power in the Word of God. God’s word can revive anything that is already dead or is dying.

John 6:63:

it is the spirit that quickeneth. The flesh profiteth nothing. The Words I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life.

The Word of God is a quickening spirit. That’s why no one that feeds on the Word regularly can die cheap. Anytime you’re in touch with the Word, you’re in touch with Life. You’re in touch with quickening/life-giving spirit so death must give way.

My father in the school of Faith, Bishop David Oyedepo, said he was ministering the word one time and there was a brother in that service who was at the final stage of HIV, where his very skin had turned green like fungus (meaning he was near his grave).  But as the Word was administered, the decaying body of this brother vibrated as  life began to surge into it.  Long and short of the story was that HIV checked out of his system. About six (6) years later, my father met this former HIV aids patient in Duala, Camaroon, still hale and hearty (fully transformed), and now a minister of the gospel. Halelluyah! God’s Word will quicken/revive whatever is dead or dying.

I recall the unusual testimony of Dodie Osteen, Joel Osteen’s mother who in 1981 was diagnosed of metastatic liver cancer and given only a few weeks to live. Yet she decided to look to the Word for solution. Solution truly came as God’s word never fails. She located several scriptures that invalidated the medical diagnosis. Good-news is, forty-three (43) years after, she’s still very much alive and well,  inspiring many others around the world with her miraculous healing testimony. Remember what the Psalmist said in our main text:

This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me - Psalm 119:50

May God’s word quicken you today.  No matter what may be dead or dying in your life, God’s Word quickens it back to life in the name of Jesus.  In case you’re experiencing a challenging health, I decree a quickening (a revitalization) of your mortal body now in the name of Jesus.

Finally, as we conclude, my recommendation to you is in line with God’s Words in Proverbs 4:20-22.  It says:

(20)  My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

(21)  Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

(22)  For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

God’s word is life and health to all your flesh.  So the admonition is to pay close attention to it continually. Keep hearing the Word daily and keep your eyed fixed on it.  For it is the secret of the preservation of our lives.

Meanwhile, if you do not have Jesus in your life, the word of God (bible) will not make proper sens to you. You need a relationship with the Living Word (Jesus) before you can understand the written Word. Therefore, If you desire to have a relationship with Jesus, Please say this simple prayer and mean it from your heart:

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and He shed His precious blood for my sins. Today, I confess Him as Lord and Saviour.  Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me!

Amen.

Congratulations! if you said that prayer. The Word of God says you are now a new creature and old things are passed away. All things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). THE POTTER AND THE CLAY

 Jeremaiah 18:1-6

(1)  The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

(2)  Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

(3)  Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

(4)  And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

(5)  Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

(6)  O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

God is the potter. We are the clay. Our lives and destinies are being molded. If the initial design/plan has failed, He is able to remold us into another vessel (shape/form) according to His desire. So ours as the clay is a life of total abandonment in the hands of the potter. God is not done with us yet. So let’s leave it to him and watch what He does with our lives.  Remember He’s a master craftsman and architect (Proverbs 3:19-20/Jeremiah 10:12); when he’s finished with His work, all eyes will behold the glory of our lives, a showpiece in His showroom of life.

As we conclude, let us know that we become the clay in the hands of God the potter only by accepting Jesus His Son as our saviour and Lord. If you want Jesus in your life, Please say this simple prayer and mean it from your heart:

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and He shed His precious blood for my sins. Today, I confess Him as Lord and Saviour.  Thank you Lord Jesus for saving me!

Amen.

GOD’S GLORY WILL CLEAN YOU UP

 Exodus 29:43

And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory.

God’s glory refers to his manifest abiding presence and power. It is the tangible, ‘feelable’ presence of God.

God’s glory often referred to as the glory cloud is as depicted in the following text

1Kings 8:10 -11

[10] And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the CLOUD filled the house of the LORD,

[11]  So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the CLOUD: for the GLORY of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

As we saw earlier in the opening text, the glory of God (the tangible manifestation of His presence and power) brings about a sanctification/cleansing of His tabernacle.

In the old covenant God manifested Himself in a physical tabernacle or temple.  Under the new covenant however, God does not abide in a physical temple but in the spiritual temples of our heart or spirit housed in the physical body. Let us validate by looking at a few scriptures:

Act 7:48: Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,

Act 17:24:  God...dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

1Corinthians 3:16:  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

2Corinthians 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

1Corinthians 6:19-20:

(19) What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

(20) For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

As we can see clearly, God abides today in the tabernacle of our spirits and physical bodies. His glory in our lives brings about a cleansing of our spirit, soul and body. So do we desire to live the sanctified life? Do we desire to live above sin and reproach? Then we must allow ourselves to be submerged/immersed in God’s presence time and again.  His manifest presence or glory in our lives establishes an automatic cleansing of His tabernacle, thereby making us pure and holy.

The question therefore is, how do we experience/encounter God’s glory? How do we Encounter His manifest presence and power? The answer is as follows:

#1. In Praise & Worship

Most often than not, God manifests Himself in praise and worship.

2Chronicles 5:13-14

(13)  It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;

(14)  So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.

Praise and worship is God’s natural habitat. God’s glory descends and fills His house when we praise Him. In Psalm 22:3 it says:

But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

So when we are accustomed to praising and worshiping God, then we make our physical lives/bodies His dwelling place. Praise and worship flowing out of our spirits invites God’s manifest presence/glory into our lives. And when He comes into His temple/tabernacle, He’ll sweep it clean. Just the same way when Jesus entered the physical temple of the Jews in Jerusalem, He drove out everyone buying and selling in the temple (that is everything that defiled the temple). He literally swept the temple clean from all that defiled (see Mark 11:15). It is the same with our spiritual temples; the temple of our spirits and bodies. When the glory of God descends into our lives, we are swept clean from all that defiles. The glory of God sanctifies His tabernacle--the tabernacle of our spirit, soul and body--making us living spectacles of His greatness.

Meanwhile, accepting Jesus the Son of God as your  saviour and lord is the starting point. If you’re set for that, Please say the following prayer and mean it from your heart:

I believe that Jesus is the Son of God who came to die for my sins and I confess Him as Lord and Saviour.  Thank you Lord for saving me.

Amen.

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more (Hebrews 8:12 )
